Reaching up to 36 in., this perennial blooms June–September in full sun on dry, well-drained clay, loam, or sandy soils. Deer-resistant and self-seeding, it naturalizes easily in borders and meadows. Attracts pollinators and songbirds.
Ecological Benefits
Nectar-rich flowers draw bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, while mature seedheads provide food for finches and other songbirds. Also serves as a larval host for certain butterfly caterpillars.
