Butterflyweed, known scientifically as Asclepias tuberosa, is a vibrant native perennial that stands out with its striking orange blooms during June and July. Reaching up to 24 inches in height, this plant thrives in full sun with medium to dry soil moisture, suitable for clay and loam soil types. Butterflyweed is a crucial component of biodiversity, serving as a larval host for Monarch and other butterfly species, while also attracting hummingbirds and bees. Its stunning flowers and ecological value make it a favorite in mixed borders, perennial beds, and prairie gardens.
