Leadplant, or Amorpha canescens, is a robust native shrub reaching up to 36 inches in height. It is distinguished by its striking purple flowers that bloom from June to August, captivating a variety of butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. The shrub thrives in medium-dry loam or sandy soils in full to partial sun. Besides its appeal to pollinators, songbirds also feast on its seeds. It serves as a host plant for the Southern Dogface Butterfly. Ideal for perennial beds and borders, Leadplant matures slowly and should not have its woody growth cut back, maintaining its natural shape.
