Poke Milkweed

Poke Milkweed (Asclepias exaltata) is a striking native plant that can reach up to 60 inches in height, making it a prominent feature in shady gardens and woodland settings. This plant produces elegant white flowers in June and July, providing nectar for bees and butterflies while serving as a critical larval host for Monarch butterflies. It thrives in areas with partial to full shade and prefers medium to wet soil conditions, accommodating both loam and sandy soils. Despite its size, Poke Milkweed does not spread aggressively, making it suitable for contained planting in shady perennial borders.
