Smooth Blue Aster

Smooth Blue Aster, scientifically known as Symphyotrichum laeve, is a charming native perennial reaching up to 48 inches in height. It showcases clusters of stunning blue flowers from August through October, providing a splash of color late into the year when many other plants have faded. Thriving in full to partial sun, this aster adapts well to a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sand, and appreciates medium to dry moisture levels. It’s an excellent choice for perennial beds and borders due to its non-aggressive growth habit. Beyond its beauty, it serves as an important nectar source for butterflies, bees, and other insect pollinators and acts as a host for the Northern Crescent Butterfly larvae.
