A summer-blooming perennial reaching up to 2 ft tall, Butterflyweed thrives in full sun and medium-dry clay or loam soils. Bright orange flower clusters appear in June and July, making it an excellent choice for mixed borders, perennial beds, and prairie gardens.
Ecological Benefits
Vital larval host for monarch butterflies and abundant nectar source for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Prairie Fairy Notes
One of my favorites; the orange flowers pop in the garden. Observed multiple Monarch caterpillars on these plants.
