This herbaceous perennial forms tidy clumps 3–4 ft tall. It blooms in late summer with profuse yellow flowerheads. Prefers full sun and medium to moist soils—clay, loam, or sand—and fits well in informal borders or prairie-style plantings.
Ecological Benefits
Attracts bees, butterflies, and moths, and serves as a larval host for the Wavy-lined Emerald and Green Leuconycta moths. Provides valuable nectar and pollen sources late in the season.
Prairie Fairy Notes
Adds a splash of yellow late into the season while other plants are spent. Fills in open spaces neatly without taking over a garden.
